ANNOUNCEMENT Upcoming Class Schedule

Hospitality - Respect - Commitment - Encouragement

From its founding in 2015, the Mother Veronica Resource Center has been a welcoming place for immigrants and other members of our community, who want to learn English, pursue their GED, and/or become citizens. It is a place where individuals can strive to realize their hopes and dreams for a better future for themselves and for their families come true.

Classes are offered in English as a Second Language, (ESL), General Educational Development (GED), Citizenship preparation, and added this year, Computer training to adults who are 18 years old or older. Language Arts and Math GED classes are available in English and in Spanish. Tu-toring is also available for GED preparation and in pre-GED and Adult Basic Education, (ABE).

Under the guidance of its Director, Sister Cara Lucille Garafolo, OSF, and its Education Coordina-tor, Sister Dorothy Sepkowski, OSF, sixteen dedicated volunteers presently serve as teachers and tutors. The class year for our ESL and GED preparation classes run from September to June. Our Citizenship preparation and Computer training classes each run for 10 weeks in both the September to December and January to June semesters.

Two of our students recently became citizens, and we have had two students pass their GED Test within the past year.

Popular reasons our students want to learn English – to communicate and meet more people, be-come a citizen and be able to bring family to the U.S., help their children with schoolwork, improve communication with others at work and find better work, and to pursue studies to establish a career; e.g., become a nurse and get credentials to practice career choice or the career they had in their country of origin.

Mission Statement

The Bernardine Franciscan Sisters, committed to their call to live the Gospel, established the Mother Veronica Resource Center, (MVRC), in response to requests for assistance from Reading, PA area immigrants.

By providing various classes, tutoring, educational and social services resources for them and for all Reading, PA area adults who come seeing a better way forward, the Center strives to improve the quality of their lives and enhance our community.
